Christmas Merriment

Instead of titling this "Christmas Parties" I wanted a more festive word - Merriment! (Actually I had to first look up the word to make sure it was indeed a word!) We were full of merriment this weekend. All our Christmas socials landed on the same weekend. Busy we were and in our bed at 7:45pm Sunday, but we had lots of fun with great friends!

Round 1: Friday Night ~ Christmas Ball at the Mansion
The Governor and Mrs. Patsy did something a little different this year (not as if I've been before, but this is what John and Leah tell me...). It was a "ball" theme with a huge white tent on the lawn. Thank the Lord for the heaters! It was so cold! But the food was great, dancing was fun (to watch!) and the Mansion was unbelievably gorgeous! Thank you, Leah, for inviting us!

Round 2: Saturday Night ~ Devoted Duos (Sunday School class) Christmas Social
This was a fun, relaxing night! Our teachers opened their home, and we all brought food. (I brought my now "go-to" dish - corn casserole! Leah gave me this recipe. It's so good and so easy! Now, it's what I always bring to parties! HA!) Unfortunately, I was too busy eating and talking to take more pictures. I only have a few!

A new best friend, Dori! This girl (originally from Afghanistan) has a story and testimony! It's incredible. It's really neat how God has crossed our paths. In fact, when she allows me, I'm going to do a blog post on just her! It will make you so proud to be an American, to know God ... and if you need proof that God is still active and moving, wait to you hear her story!

Our wonderful teachers, Bob and Sandra Passmore. What a Godly couple!

Round 3: Sunday Afternoon ~ Christmas in Prattville
John and I invited our family to a "Christmas in Prattville" party. If you know John, you know how excited he was for this. It was actually his idea! We made homemade peppermint bark, chocolate swirl cake, sugar cookies and topped it off with wassail. Oh wow - how good! Then, we did a taco soup dinner for them. The part I'm ill about: I HAVE NO PICTURES! It boils my blood. It's so impossible to be the host and take pictures. And I'm torn - because I like hosting and I love pictures!

It's not right to end without saying that while all these parties and socials are fun and create wonderful memories, they are meaningless without our Savior, Jesus Christ, as the focus. Mary said this right before the birth of Christ. Let this speak to you today:

"My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant
From now on all generations will call
me blessed
for the Mighty One has done great things for me
holy is his name"
Luke 1:46
(I strongly recommend Todd Agnew's 'Do You See What I See' Christmas album. Mary's song is on there.)

Fun pictures! And I love the word merriment. I may have to snag it.
